This course provides learners with a comprehensive set of practical skills which are needed by first aiders in most working environments. Providing learners with the knowledge and the skills to deal with first aid emergencies:

  • The principles of first aid
  • The role of the first aider
  • Communicating with a casualty
  • Minor conditions including minor cuts and grazes, bruises and small splinters
  • Contents of a first aid kit
  • Reporting and aftercare
  • Blood loss and shock
  • Burns and scalds
  • Eye injuries
  • Fractures and dislocations, including spinal injuries
  • Sprains and strains
  • Causes of unconsciousness and the recovering position

In addition the course will cover a practical guide to major conditions including:

  • Diabetes
  • Seizures
  • Asthma
  • Heart attack
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Choking
  • Stroke
  • Sudden poisoning
  • Anaphylactic shock

This course is suitable for individuals who are required to act as the first aider within the workplace
