Packaging Regulations

The Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) Regulations (2007) require producers of packaging waste in England, Scotland and Wales to contribute towards recovering and recycling a proportion of the packaging produced.

The regulations apply to businesses that produce packaging and:

  1. have an annual turnover of more than £2million
  2. produced or handled packaging weighing more than 50 tonnes in the previous calendar year

If your organisation meets these criteria, you must register with the Environment Agency or with an approved scheme and also report the amount of packaging that has been handled.

Failure to comply could result in prosecution and a severe financial penalty.

As well as advising on whether the regulations apply to you, Mayer’s associates can clearly detail how to ensure you are meeting your legal requirements. We are able to guide you through the entire process, giving you peace of mind that your organisation is operating within the rules.

Through our strong links with accredited recyclers, we can also ensure you meet your obligations cost-effectively. Contact Mayer today to find out how we can help.
